The objective

Your goal is simple: circle seated players, choose a runner, and race for the open spot. This guide uses the most common beginner-friendly rules. Families and groups may agree on variations before starting.

What you need

A soft, clear area.

How to set up

  1. Players sit in a wide circle with safe running space around it.
  2. Choose one player to be the picker.

How to play: step by step

  1. The picker walks around tapping heads gently and saying duck.
  2. On saying goose, the chosen player stands and chases the picker around the circle.
  3. The picker tries to sit in the goose’s empty spot before being tagged.
  4. If successful, the goose becomes the new picker; if tagged, apply the agreed replay rule.

Beginner strategies

  • Use walking or hopping for younger children.
